Huge Vatican's art heritage considers from several colections, formed in diferent eges. Some of them have names, according which Pope's will and care the colection established or the building for the exhibition. Vatican's museums are one of the biggest main of history, art and culture, also and the Palace.

Sistine IVth expanded the Palace and built Sistine Chapel - today one of the well-known Vatican's complex in the world. For visitors are allowed into it only through the lateral entrance. The masonry of Sistine Chapel from the exterior looks like Middle Age's stronghold, it is possible to see clearly, that the Chapel and part of the Palace was intended for defence.

From the XVIII century Popes Clemens XIII, Clemens XIV and Pius VI personal colections made into museums and the Belveder villa was adapted to exhibitions. Museo Pio-Clementino opened for visitors in 1771.

Efforts exposition to make more modern - consecrated Paolo VI modern and contemporary art colection, which is exhibiting in historic apartaments of Borgia. The newest museums reorganization was for the jubilee 2000.
