The third largest city of Turkey. Originally name of the city is Swmaurna – meaning „Place of the Sacred mother“. Homeros – the most important and well-known person of Izmir. In 1390 teritory was annexed and became a major center of trade in all Ottoman land. Agora – very big archeological find. There are found and completely ruined objects – aqueducts, colonnaded, porticoed streets, remains of the ancient way, ancient theatre and stadion. Remains of the ancient cities – Klaozomenai, Erythrai, Agrilia, Aere, Teos, myonnessos, Colophon, Lebedos. Important works of art – mosques of Hisar, Cakaloglu, Sadirvan, Kemeralti, the Artemis Baths. In Izmir are working several museums – Ataturk, Archeological, Ethnography, Agricultural, Health, Art Gallery.
