The capital of Turkey was proclaimed after the War of Independence on October 13, 1923. Originally name is „Ankura“ – meaning „the Temple of the Blessed Mother God“. Ankara, after Istanbul, is Turkey's the second most important industrial city. The most valued product for the region around Ankara is mohair. In 1946 was established the University of Ankara, the Middle East Technical University in 1956 and the Hacettepe University was founded in 1206. Ankara also has the State Theatre, the National Library and the Presidential Symphony Orchestra.
