It is nessecerly to visit Catalonia capital Barcelona. Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both population and size. Besides it is surely the most cosmopolitan and economically most active town in this country. Because it is capital of Catalonia here are two official languages spoken: Catalan, generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and Castillian Spanish.
Its gothic churches, musiems, national flags on buildings, balconies with oranges, town‘s squares, briliant Spanish cuisine, shores of the Mediterranean and its beaches and wounderful weather combain admire people.
City has an old history and it is reflected on almost intact Gothic center. There you can find monuments of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance periods or still before. The curious contrast is between the maze of narrow streets and the grid-like layout of the Eixample, the urban planning "Enlargement" project of the end of the 19th century. Barcelona has been a center of Modernist architecture and is differentiates specially by the works of genius Antoní Gaudí.
The galleries with the treasures of Miró, Tápies and Picasso make Barcelona visually impresive indoors and outdoors. "New Catalan Cuisine" and tapas bars tempt the taste buds, and the nightlife and music are on the cutting edge.
What else? One of the attraction is shopping. It is not at the same league as Paris or Milan, but certainly is among Europe's cities of style. Barcelona is home to the famous 5 km shopping line. It stretches from the top of the Ramblas, through Placa de Catalunya along Passeig de Gràcia and up Avenue Diagonal. Much of the shopping line is pedestriansed making it a pleasant experience to wonder from shop to shop without worrying about traffic. Here you can find all world famous brands as Versace, Burberry, Giorgio Armani, Cartier, Calvin Klein, Bally and others, various clothes, shoes, jewellery, apparel and accessories. Before you leave, don’t forget to purchase some souvenirs: Ceramics and Pottery, Porcelain, something from leather, stylish belt or handbag, handmade shoes or fine jacket, beacause it has long been one of Spain's most highly valued products. If you're looking for some interesting traditional engravings, carvings, or just simple bric-a-brac to take home, you have an abundance of options in Antiques shops.
