Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia, economic, university, cultural and sports centre.
During the XIIIth century town had to ward off the Turkish army with strong walls (the remains are still well preserved).
In Maribor's centre tourist may find medieval times architecture remains (new buildings were erected on the remains or old buildings were totally renovated, but their original appearance was lost).
Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist is the oldest architectural building of Maribor, first mentioned in 1248, during centuries it gained several architectural styles.
In Maribor is still very good wine and cuisine traditions. Calvary (the hill) is mantled in grape vines the oldest vine in the world, growing here for more than 400 years.
The most important and in must-visit list is cultural sights of the old town core of wine growing hills and green Pohorje,

Of course here are and others worth to see places and buildings - Adrenaline Park, Maribor Cathedral (was built in the 12th century), Maribor Synagogue (first mentioned in the year 1429), Maribor Castle (built by Emperor Friderik III between 1478 and 1483 years, today is surounded by the busy squares of Maribor), Botanical garden Tal 2000 (smallish private botanical garden, where visitors can find the largest collection of growing aquatic and waterside plants in Slovenia, among tehm are and rare, poisonous species), Primeval forest with the waterfalls Veliki and Mali Shumik (by the Lobnica stream are 19 hectares of Pohorje primeval forest, Veliki Shumik waterfall is one of the mightiest waterfalls, near is and the other waterfall - Mali Shumik and the way between them is very difficult).
