The Winter Palace is the most famous building Saint Petersburg, there was the residence of the Tsars and these walls saw actions, which caused the 1905 and 1917 Revolutions when in July of 1917 the Provisional Government took up residence here.
Today's structure completed in 1762 by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, commissioned by the Empress Elizabeth. The baroque facade is two hundred meters long. Peter III the first who used this building as the winter residence, after him every ruler of Russia did that too.
