|
After the Revolution of 1917 The Hermitage was opened to the public, there were nearly three million works, especially of Italian Renaissance and French Impressionist paintings (Rembrandt, Picasso, Matisse), Greek and Roman antiquities collection, Siberian and Central Asian art. Great number of these exhibit was the private art collection of Peter the Great and Catherine's the Great, which expanded the collection.
Very big value has and the museum itself, because of interior decorations, architectural details, size and quality.
