Go to the city heart Baixa. It is the downtown of Lisbon. It rests an imposing district, with elegant squares, pedestrianized streets, cafes, and shops. A Comercio Square is one of them. This waterfront square also called Terreiro do Paeo or "the palace's“ square. Because the royal palace stood for over two centuries until was destroyed by the Great Earthquake in 1755. There are triumphal arch in the north, statue of King Jose I in the center.We advise to visit legendary cafe – Cafe Martinho da Arcada, dating from 1782. Poets Almeida Garrett and Fernando Pessoa, novelist Eea de Queiroz. were used to sit here.
