Is a must to visit Algarve region and it‘s capital Faro. It‘s placed in south of country. This territory was the last conques, which was taken from Moors and unique architecture reflects that. Terraces, chimneys and whitewashed houses admire visitors. 150km of fabulous sandy beach, broken up by extraordinary rugged cliffs and fantastic grottoes spreads along the region. Fruit, cork and fish are shipped out through its small, sheltered port.
Most of tourists Faro is starting point for their tour to the Algarve and or Portugal. The international aireport is placed here. But we suggest don‘t leave this medieval town so quickly, there are a large number of monuments. We highly recomend to see medieval wall, impressive Gothic Cathedral; Nossa Senhora da Assuncao Convent, extanted from Renaissance, also the Sao Francisco Church founded in 16-18th centuries. The wonderful Sao Pedro da Misericordia and Nossa Senhora do Carmo are worth to tour as well. Would you like more culture? You can go to see Roman ruins of Milreu in the suburbs or visit one of interesting city museums: Infante Dom Henrique, Regional Ethnographic, Ramalho Ortigao and Antoniano.
On the other hand, if you are lover of active leisure this district is perfect place. Go straight to sandy beach. 125 sunny days per year are the perfect condition for various water sports facilities. Also other alternatives, such as tennis courts, famous golf courses, high quality hotels or an exciting nightlife. Portuguese love party over night. You can feel especialy in Faro, don‘t miss it. Go to Rua do Prior, it‘s situated at the heart of town. The area is a chock-a-block with dozens of night cafes, pubs and dance clubs that rock from around 10:00 pm till down. In many of night clubs you can meet friends, enjoy cocktails and a good selection of fine wines, the good music and ambiance of the bar. There are lot of cafes and restaurants in the center of Faro where visitors you can refresh yourself after a tour of the city.
