Lithuania is the biggest country of the three Baltic states. It was the first occupied Soviet republic to break free from the Soviet Union and restore its sovereignty. The declaration of independence was published on 11 March 1990. But it‘s old country with deep traditions, in 2009 will celebrate its name Millennium. 1000 year ago(in 1009) Lithuania was mentioned for the first time in the Annales Quedlinburgenses books.

The lithuanian language is considered to oldest surviving Indo-European language.It‘s akin to Sanskrit. Despite the fact it‘s not big country, there are four diferent dialects in four regions (zemaiciu, aukstaiciu, dzuku, suvalkieciu). The best way to explore these regions peculiarity is to visit folk museum Rumsiskes. It‘s big area, where you can find every region typical old houses, utensils and traditions. Become acquainted with the larger cities of Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipeda.

Try Lithuanian cusine, which is characterized as filling dishes, most of them are made of potatos and pork. It‘s speciality is cold beet soup (saltibarsciai) and ,,cepelinai“. Cepelinai is dish made from grated potatous. Potato dumplings are filled with meat (usually pork), curd cheese or mushrooms and boiled. The Lithuanian beer is renoned for good quality and tasty.

Lithuanian is exclusive for it‘s natural nature. Almoust over one quarter of Lithuania is forested. When you cross the country, will see the quite flat landscape with some low hills. Lithuanian the moust make boast of  the Baltic shoreline and it‘s wellknown resorts: Palanga and Nida. Nida is located in Kursiu Nerija. It‘s one of five Lithuania‘s national parks, charming with a special environment of high dunes, pine forests, beaches, a lagoon and sea coasts.

Furthermore, we suggest to visit Ventes ragas on the Curonian Lagoon (Kursiu marios) in Rusne. This place is well know for world ornithologist. Become familiarize with local birds, there sit peculiaritys and how birds are ringing and registring in the world list.

The main religion in country is catalic. We suggest to visit cross mountain (Kryziu kalnas) next to Siauliai.

It‘s said the second religion in Lithuania is basketball. There are many world famous basketball players grown here: Arvydas Sabonis, Marciulionis,  and others.
