| House of Blackheads |
|
|
House of Blackheads titled as the nicest building in Europe. It‘s located in the center of Riga, near the Town Hall Square. The house was erected by the town itself, and originally it was rented to the merchants of the Large Guild and the unmarried merchants, the Brotherhood of Blackheads, who later, in 1713, purchased the building and became its proprietors. The House of Blackheads was reconstructed and expanded for a number of times, the last time in 2001. Many of its fantastical riches accompanied Baltic-Germans who repatriated to Germany in the late 1930s.
