We suggest to start your journey around Latvia from it’s capital Riga. Riga is the biggest metropolitan in all three Baltic states. Almost half of Latvian inhabited here. Riga sometimes called "Paris of the north". Because the city is situated on the shore of Daugava river. The TV tower remains us the Paris Eifel Tower. Not far from Riga's Old City the national restaurant Lido is situated. The main building - a wooden three-story structure is built to look like an old mill house. During night it gets remarkable illumination. Town has many great and relaxing city parks as well. Riga is home to many historic churches of all dominations. The breathtaking Riga skyline can be visible from St Peters Church tower. Take the lift to the top for an unbelievable 360 degree view.Explore the oldtown. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The best point to start would be the Town Hall Square (Ratslaukums) at the end of Kalku Street. The Museum of Occupations, the restorated Town Hall, and the impressive House of Blackheads, also rebuilt after the 2nd World War. After go futher to the Dome Cathedral and the square which surrounds it, full of some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. On the left lie the historic Swedish Gate and remains of Riga’s original town wall. The monument of freedom in central district, Riga‘s castle are also important to see.
If it’s enough the city uproar go to Jurmala. It’s Riga’s suburb next to the Baltic sea. You can discover a combination of charming wooden houses built at the beginning of the last century and modern resort buildings, taste delicious and varied culinary delights in Jurmala's restaurants and cafes.
Before you leave, don’t forget to purchase some Riga‘s balsam. It‘s herbal liqueur made with various natural ingredients mixed in pure vodka.
