In 1834 Athens became a captal, even though till when was unmeaningful borough. Nowadays it is busy and modern city. Athens is culturical, financial and political centre. The city formed 3500 years ago the greatest succsess have reached in classical ancient Greece period. From that time had left a lot of edifices and art's works. It is the main ceramical center too. Athen's vases in antique period had so big success, that in VI century BC were taken into other cities where greeks lived. Greec's golden age was in V century BC. In this period atheninians had controled almost all east Mediteranian's sea part. Then was started to built Acropolis.

The King's arcitects were planing to build new, europien style city. They designed wides, overgrowned streets with trees (Panepistimiou, Akadimias). Soon there arose a lot of impressive neoclasical common buildings and grand houses. Today whitin are banks, ambassies, comon institutions - University, Nacional library. Very much chic shops and market center may find in Kalithea living area. There are and a big part of the bests Athens museums in this quarter.
