In this territory was very important saint place for war god Odin. In historic sources mentioned only in 1000 years, when became the centre where bishop has authority. In 1247 the city was fired, but during the XVIth - XVIIth centuries recovered.

For development great important had habour and river's canal in 1804.

Today Odense is the third Denmark's town with good textile's, sugar's, tobacco's, meat's, fish's, ship's industry.

Here is endured franciscan monastery, which was built in 1279 and now is a refuge, benedictine monastery (the XIIth century). Museums of art, archeologic, historic, rail, university of Odense (established in 1964, is the third in all country). Also in Odense was born famous danish writer Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875), today in his house is museum.
