For many centuries Zadar was the capital of Dalmatia and is few thousand years old town, here still are narrow streets since the Roman times, four remaining city gates (the most important and most impressive gate was built in 1543 by the Venetians in a Renaissance style), Sea Gate (designed by Michele Sanmichele in 1560).

In Zadar was established the first university of Croatia in 1396, was written the first Croatian novel in 1536 and the first newspaper's publication of Croatia.

Tourists also can visit Paklenica National Park (is in the UNESCO heritage list as a biological reserve), here live bird colonies and plant species, also here are great opportunities for hikers, climbers and other sport lovers.
