Today Plovdiv is the second biggest city in Bulgaria and also one of the oldest Europe's city built on the 7 hills, first time its name appeared in the XVth century, but in 432 B.C. Plovdiv was conquered by Philip II ( macedonian). In 447 Plovdiv was damaged by the Huns.
In today's Plovdiv visitors may find several mosques and original Turkish baths and other interesting places or buildings,
because this town is full of historical houses, also it is a modern town, the centre of trade and culture.
Old Plovdiv was built in the XIXth century and today tourists can see a unique architectural ensemble on the three hills,
it is often called as a large open museum, because here are more than 150 monuments, wonderful houses (today they are turned
into museums), galleries, workshops and other places where visitors can spend their money.
In 1979 Plovdiv got a gold medal from UNESCO because of architecture - within houses wooden ceilings are carved, walls are decorated, used European furniture, marvelous gardens with flowers, fruit trees, old vines and roses.
