In about 300 meters square In Elbasan was built a stronghold (by Romans) with protecting towers, in the IIIth/IVth century it was called Hiskampis. After its golden age - it became very big trade and transport centre - Hiskampis was destroyed by Bulgars and Ostrogoths.
In 1467 Sultan Mehmet II built huge castle with four-sided, deep moat and three gates.
During three years period (1915 - 1918) Elbasan was occupied by Serbs, Bulgars, Austrians and Italians.
Today tourist can visit Catholic, Orthodox Church and The Tower.
